Jesus Pro-Am 2008 3 - 4 May, Manly Beach NSW Blake Thornton Powers to Victory
and Yvonne Byron Wins Back to Back Titles!
(Manly, Sunday 4th May, 2008): Maroubra surfer Blake Thornton was all class when he won the blue ribbon Open Men’s division of the Jesus Pro Am at Manly, defeating stylish Ulladulla surf Ashley King for the Title.
In small but highly contestable waves, both finalists employed great small wave surfing tactics on their way to the Final. Thornton overcame flashy Old Bar surfer Bobby Frith and the inform Alex Chacon (Avalon) in the quarter and semi finals respectively with
King defeating consistent Avalon surfer Jefferson Duarte and former Jesus Pro Am champion Dylan Hannah (Cronulla) in two very tight heats.

organization Walking On Water (WOW)
members. Our primary role was to identify
and connect with the local surfers through
surfing, with the purpose of introducing them
to the love and salvation that can only be

2008 Christian Surfers International conference - J-Bay, South Africa
IT'S NOT ABOUT ME... 12 Jan 2008 Manly, NSW On Saturday 12th Jan 2008, the inaugural Paddle Against Poverty hit the water. The course ahead of the paddlers was 10km from Collaroy to Manly. Every entrant aimed to raise at least $100 to help families on the Sumompo Rubbish Dump in Manado, Indonesia to release themselves from poverty. The event raised over $10500 with 26 paddlers!
Weather conditions were favorable and the paddle was completed in just over 2 hours. No blue bottles this time, and we managed to avoid the sharks :) (according to life savers who followed the paddlers).
Big thanks to the surf life savers from Collaroy, Long Reef and North Steyne for helping us with the event safety.
Thanks to all the surf shops and surf clubs for putting up the posters to promote this event, to Manly Daily for the article and Sydney Morning Herald for the blurb.
We are aiming to run this event again next year, so if you would like to join us keep it in mind!
