RISK ASSESSMENT/PERMISSION TO PROCEED PROCESS:

For all mission or regional activities such as general meet ups, camps or events. Mission Coordinators (for any mission events) and/or Regional Coordinators (for any regional events) must complete risk assessments and obtain Permission to Proceed from within the Safety Management Online portal system.

Then you need to request permission to proceed with your program. An email will be sent to whoever is listed as the coordinator of the program team you selected. So ensure the correct person is listed here. Permission to Proceed should be obtained from the Regional Coordinator for all Mission activities and from the National Administrator for all Regional activities. Your Coordinator will assesses the information you provide and, if satisfied that the planned program is satisfactory to your organisation, will grant you Permission to Proceed within SMO.

Lots of useful information on this process can be found under the ‘Resources’ tab on the SMO portal and in the SMO User Guide on Risk & Permission to Proceed document available to download below.

Please also note that the Christian Surfers Insurance only covers the following activities: Bush Camping, Bush Walking, Roller Skates/Blades/Boards, Surfing (with Boards), Swimming, Ocean Paddling, Unpowered Water Craft, fishing and waterslide.

A few things to note when setting up your program in SMO;

  • Ongoing programs need a start and end date so that the permission for the program to operate can be periodically renewed. You might choose to do this once each term, semester or annually.

  • If you don't want to do an individual Risk Assessment for each activity, you can choose to upload your Risk Assessment using the spreadsheets templates you have used in the past into the 'upload document' section. Template Risk Assessments can be downloaded for use below.

  • You can copy existing or past programs using all of the same risk assessment information and just update dates etc as needed if not much is changing.
